About The Position

We are seeking a dependable and motivated Janitorial Shift Supervisor to lead daily custodial operations and ensure the facility remains clean, safe, and well-maintained. This position provides leadership, training, and quality control for the custodial team while maintaining high cleaning standards and compliance with safety procedures. The supervisor will serve as the primary on-site contact for client representatives, faculty, and facilities leadership, ensuring custodial operations run efficiently and support building activities and events.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of custodial experience in a commercial or institutional environment
  • 2+ years of supervisory or team lead experience
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, supplies, and safety practices
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to operate custodial equipment such as auto-scrubbers, buffers, and vacuums
  • Ability to work evenings, early mornings, weekends, or special event hours when required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a school or campus environment
  • Knowledge of floor care procedures (stripping, waxing, buffing)
  • Understanding of OSHA safety standards

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coach, and support custodial staff in completing daily assignments.
  • Assign work duties, coordinate shift coverage, and adjust schedules based on facility needs.
  • Conduct daily team check-ins and end-of-shift inspections.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluations of custodial staff.
  • Ensure all cleaning and sanitation tasks meet established quality standards.
  • Conduct routine daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of classrooms, restrooms, offices, and common areas.
  • Monitor cleaning supply usage and maintain proper inventory levels.
  • Ensure all custodial equipment is properly maintained and safe to operate.
  • Respond promptly to spills, service requests, emergencies, and special cleaning needs.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for school leadership, faculty, and facilities management.
  • Communicate priorities, work progress, and operational concerns professionally.
  • Support school schedules, events, and facility usage with custodial services.
  • Ensure custodial staff follow safety protocols, including proper chemical handling and PPE usage.
  • Conduct safety meetings and toolbox talks with team members.
  • Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, and equipment problems promptly.
  • Support environmental health standards including sanitation, mold prevention, and indoor air quality.
  • Maintain cleaning logs, inspection reports, and shift documentation.
  • Track employee attendance, schedules, and timesheets.
  • Assist with planning and executing summer cleaning programs, deep cleaning projects, and event setups.
