About The Position

SUMMARY: The primary purpose of the Janitor is to maintain assigned cleaning areas in a safe, sanitary, orderly and customary manner according to AbilityOne project site contracts standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one-year experience in the housekeeping/janitorial service industry preferred.
  • Ability to follow detailed work schedule
  • Requires acceptable results of all required background checks
  • Must be flexible and able to work as part of a team, willing to work hours/shifts of the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Removes and disposes of trash.
  • Empties all trash barrels and replaces all soiled trash barrel liners in designated cleaning area.
  • Returns all trash barrels to their original position.
  • Removes full trash bag from rolling barrel and disposes of in an outside dumpster.
  • Places new trash bag in rolling barrel.
  • Vacuums public and office areas.
  • Prepares floor for vacuuming by removing large debris and disposing in trash barrel.
  • Accurately vacuums all carpet in designated cleaning area.
  • Cleans/checks and if necessary replaces vacuum bag after each use.
  • Returns vacuum to appropriate area after each use.
  • Sweeps public and office areas.
  • Sweeps all designated cleaning areas with broom.
  • Sweeps dirt from floor into dustpan from designated cleaning areas and places in trash barrel.
  • Returns broom and dustpan to appropriate area after each use.
  • Mops public, office and restroom areas.
  • Prepares floor for mopping by sweeping or dust mopping.
  • Ensures that the appropriate chemical is used to mop designated cleaning areas.
  • Damp mops all designated cleaning areas.
  • Returns and cleans mop/bucket to the appropriate area after each time used.
  • Cleans restrooms and locker rooms.
  • Cleans all fixtures (urinals, toilets, sinks) in designated cleaning area.
  • Cleans all mirrors in restroom.
  • Replenishes all paper supplies (paper towels, toilet paper) in restroom.
  • Polishes all metal surfaces.
  • Spot cleans walls and partitions.
  • Dusts top of partitions.
  • Sweeps dirt from restroom floor into dustpan and places dirt in trash barrel.
  • Mops restroom floor.
  • Strips and finishes floors.
  • Moves furniture off floor in area to be stripped/finished.
  • Sweeps and/or damp mops area to be stripped/finished before applying stripper.
  • Applies appropriate amount of stripper to floors designated area and protects other areas.
  • Uses machine to remove floors finish in designated area.
  • Applies appropriate amount of new finish to floors in designated area and protects other areas.
  • Places all furniture back in their original positions.
  • Follows a detailed cleaning schedule according to the project site contract.
  • Reports all unsafe/hazardous conditions, defective equipment and complaints to immediate supervisor or Project Manager.
  • Ensure that designated cleaning areas are free of cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Ensures that all cleaning equipment and supplies are properly stored to their proper area(s) at the end of a shift and/or workday.
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with Federal Government employees while providing a customer service atmosphere.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
