About The Position

The Jail Clinical Position provides comprehensive mental health services within a correctional setting. This role supports inmates and correctional staff by conducting mental health assessments, intervening in crisis situations, and assisting with clinical decision-making related to level-of-care placement, including hospitalization. The clinician plays a key role in treatment planning, stabilization, and re-entry preparation.

Requirements

  • Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Professional Counselor (PC) required
  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related behavioral health field
  • Ability to work effectively in a correctional environment
  • Strong assessment, crisis intervention, and clinical decision-making skills

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in corrections, community mental health, or crisis settings is a plus
  • Knowledge of re-entry planning and community-based mental health resources is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Provide mental health assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and clinical recommendations for incarcerated individuals
  • Intervene in mental health crisis situations and collaborate with correctional staff to ensure safety and appropriate care
  • Assist in determining level-of-care placement, including referrals for psychiatric hospitalization when clinically indicated
  • Deliver individual counseling and brief therapeutic interventions
  • Provide case management services, including coordination with internal and external providers
  • Participate in re-entry planning to support continuity of care upon release
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with agency, state, and correctional standards
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including correctional staff, medical providers, and community partners
