About The Position

The Intravenous Specialist assesses and evaluates the patient's health status as it relates to vascular access and IV therapy needs and develops plans of care based on the patient's needs. He/She identifies and utilizes age-specific teaching techniques for patients and various teaching modalities for clinical staff. The Intravenous Resource Specialist is competent in utilizing visualization technology for the placement of peripheral IVs as well as peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs). The Intravenous Resource Specialist works in collaboration with clinical staff and reports directly to the IV Resource Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Current NH licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • Certification by the Vascular Access Certification Corporation within 1 year of hire
  • Three (3) years related experience

Responsibilities

  • Operates ultrasound technology for successful midline and PICC line placement
  • Functions independently if necessary
  • Prioritizes facility patient vascular access needs
  • Utilizes vein visualization technology
  • Utilizes facility information technology effectively for documentation purposes
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, clinical and medical staff
  • Instructs clinical staff related to vascular access
  • Maintains expert peripheral IV placement skill
