Function: The IT Technician provides hands-on technical support and operational assistance to ensure the reliability, security, and daily functionality of the City’s information technology systems. This position serves as the primary frontline support for employees and assists the IT Administrator with system maintenance, device deployment, troubleshooting, and routine IT operations. The IT Technician plays a critical role in supporting users, maintaining equipment, and ensuring issues are resolved efficiently so the IT Administrator can focus on strategic planning, cybersecurity oversight, and system administration.

Requirements

  • Valid Texas driver’s license required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of experience providing technical support, help desk services, or IT systems support; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, and common business applications.
  • MS Experience supporting Windows-based environments, mobile devices, and networked printers.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant entry-level or intermediate IT certifications (e.g., MS 365 Fundamental Cert MS-900, MS 365 Administrator Cert MS-102, CompTIA A+, Network+, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Experience working in a municipal or public-sector environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • User Support Serve as first-line technical support for City employees, responding to service requests and troubleshooting hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot desktop and laptop computers, monitors, printers, scanners, tablets, and mobile devices.
  • Assist employees with system access issues, password resets, and basic application support.
  • Provide clear, courteous assistance to users with varying levels of technical proficiency.
  • Document issues, resolutions, and recurring problems to support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
  • Hardware, Software, and Device Management Set up and deploy new equipment for new hires, transfers, and replacements under the direction of the IT Administrator.
  • Maintain and update operating systems, software applications, and peripheral devices.
  • Assist with inventory tracking of IT assets, including equipment assignments, replacements, and surplus items.
  • Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and minor repairs on IT equipment.
  • Network and Systems Support Assist with monitoring and maintaining network-connected devices, printers, and basic infrastructure components.
  • Support wired and wireless connectivity troubleshooting at City facilities.
  • Assist with backup checks, endpoint protection updates, and routine system health tasks as assigned.
  • Escalate complex network, server, or security issues to the IT Administrator.
  • Cybersecurity and Compliance Follow established cybersecurity policies and procedures when handling systems and data.
  • Assist with endpoint security updates, antivirus checks, and user compliance support.
  • Reinforce cyber-awareness best practices by helping employees follow security guidelines and report suspicious activity.
  • Technology Operations and Coordination Assist with audiovisual setup and technical support for meetings, training sessions, and City events.
  • Perform basic cable runs, workstation moves, and equipment installations.
  • Coordinate with vendors or service providers for routine repairs or installations under the direction of the IT Administrator
  • Other Duties Respond to after-hours or emergency technical issues as assigned.
  • Maintain organized IT workspaces, storage areas, and documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
