About The Position

This is a full time Summer Internship primarily based on-site at the Calix San Jose Office. There's an expectation to work on-site a few days per week, though some remote work may be accommodated based on team needs. Calix is looking for a Summer intern to join our IT Service Desk team. In this role, you will be part of a unique and award-winning internship program within the company. The program provides the opportunity to learn new skills through training and on the job learning. The expected duration is 90 days. The IT Support Analyst Intern role is designed for students who are interested in gaining hands-on experience in Information Technology and end-user support. This internship focuses on learning core IT Service Desk operations while providing guided support to Calix employees. The intern will work under close supervision, receive structured training, and gradually take on responsibilities related to user support, documentation, and IT operations. This role emphasizes learning, skill development, and exposure to real-world IT environments rather than prior professional experience. The intern will be supported by experienced team members and provided opportunities to grow technical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Requirements

  • Student currently pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of computer systems, operating systems, and common productivity tools
  • Strong interest in learning IT support, customer service, and enterprise technology environments
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to follow instructions, ask questions, and learn from feedback
  • Able to work for the complete summer break (May - August or June - September).

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Windows and/or macOS environments preferred
  • Exposure to Microsoft 365 or other cloud-based productivity tools preferred
  • Coursework or personal experience related to networking, troubleshooting, or IT fundamentals preferred
  • CompTIA ITF+ or A+ coursework (certification not required) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide courteous, professional first-level IT support to Calix team members under supervision
  • Learn how to triage, document, and escalate IT support requests using standard Service Desk tools and processes
  • Assist with creating, updating, and maintaining user-facing IT documentation and knowledge base articles
  • Support basic hardware and software tasks such as device setup, asset tracking, and inventory updates
  • Observe and participate in incident communications, system updates, and planned IT changes
  • Collaborate with global Service Desk team members to understand regional and time-zone-based support models
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and shadowing opportunities with senior analysts
  • Follow established IT procedures, security standards, and data confidentiality requirements
