About The Position

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) applies cutting-edge technology to operating a reliable electricity system, managing competitive markets for wholesale electricity, and planning for the Empire State's energy future. Our summer internship programs give young professionals the opportunity to gain a fundamental understanding of New York electricity markets, bulk electricity systems and how we plan for New York State’s energy future. The IT Software Technologies intern will work on multiple assignments, including secure coding, bug fixes, new development sprints, software upgrades, and vendor software configuration. At the NYISO, we realize the importance of balancing the availability of remote work with the inherent value of bringing people together to attain success in the areas of maximum collaboration, relationship building and growth, teamwork, innovation and problem solving, as well as professional development and mentoring. In this role, you will be required to work onsite from our Rensselaer, NY location several days per workweek, with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. All offers of employment will be made contingent upon the successful completion of a drug screening and background check. Requirements

  • Current enrollment in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related degree program.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Java, Python, C++, etc.).
  • Familiarity with development platforms and tools (e.g., GitHub, Visual Studio Code).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AI coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Write high-quality, secure code with strong test coverage.
  • Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to understand requirements.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and performance optimization.
  • Prepare technical documentation and propose solutions to design challenges.
