About The Position

Leidos is looking for an IT Security Engineer Intern to support Leidos Business Protected Environments (BPEs)—specialized, secure enclaves that enable program execution not otherwise supportable on the enterprise network. This position provides a hands-on opportunity to support the security, compliance, and risk posture of internal IT environments while working closely with experienced security engineers and program stakeholders. This role is ideal for a college student pursuing a career in cybersecurity who is seeking real-world experience in secure system operations, vulnerability management, and compliance support within a large enterprise organization.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Fundamental understanding of information security principles gained through coursework or academic projects
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple responsibilities

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Windows-based information systems
  • Basic exposure to Linux operating systems
  • Interest in cybersecurity operations, vulnerability management, or compliance frameworks
  • Possess a current DoD 8570.01 compliant certification for IAM Level II, e.g. Security + w/CE

Responsibilities

  • Monitor BPE environments using IT security dashboards and tools to identify alerts, findings, and required remediations
  • Assist with implementing security and compliance requirements to maintain secure IT environments
  • Support efforts to reduce or eliminate risks to the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information systems
  • Take corrective actions to address security issues in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Review security scan results and assist with developing and tracking remediation plans
  • Work with the IT Security Engineering team to identify and communicate security risks to supported programs
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to support secure system operations throughout the system lifecycle
