The Town of Natick & Natick Public Schools Seeks an IT Security Analyst. The Natick Public Schools educate approximately 5,300 students from Pre-K through age 22. The IT Security Analyst is a hands-on role, responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the town and the school district's physical campuses and digital infrastructure. This position bridges the gap between physical security and cybersecurity to safeguard students, staff, and assets. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in IT operations within an educational or public sector setting and be able to conduct threat assessments, incident response, and implement risk mitigation solutions in both physical and digital environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in IT operations and/or a security-related role (physical and/or cyber).
  • Knowledge of various security frameworks (ie: CIS Critical Security Controls, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, etc.), incident response procedures, and physical security technologies.
  • Familiarity with K-12 education compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with Municipal departments and operations (Police (CJIS), Fire, Libraries, etc).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant certifications such as CISA, CISM, CISSP, Security+, CEH, CPP (ASIS), or similar.
  • Experience in a K-12 or public education and/or municipal environment.
  • Experience working with vendors and managing security projects.
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts data privacy laws, student data privacy laws, and school safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively audit the town and school networks, systems, and devices to evaluate our controls and ability to respond to cyber threats.
  • Research and collaborate with Town and School IT on cybersecurity best practices, including endpoint protection, patch management, firewall configurations, and secure access controls.
  • Perform regular vulnerability scans, risk assessments, and penetration testing.
  • Investigate security incidents and provide detailed reports and remediation strategies.
  • Work with Town and School IT to ensure secure deployment of new technologies.
  • Provide cybersecurity awareness training and promote the use of approved tools to all employees, faculty, and staff.
  • Conduct regular proactive phishing campaigns to identify additional employee training needs.
  • Ensure compliance with FERPA, CIPA, and other relevant laws and policies related to student data privacy.
  • Establish a standardized data privacy agreement for municipalities in collaboration with local communities and incorporate it into our own town's IT procurement process.
  • Evaluate, implement, maintain, and document physical security systems such as access control, video surveillance (CCTV), alarms, paging, radios, and visitor management systems.
  • Conduct regular audits and risk assessments of physical facilities to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities.
  • Collaborate with local law enforcement, emergency management, and school resource officers for coordinated safety planning.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of emergency response procedures, lockdown drills, and crisis management plans.
  • Support the installation and maintenance of security systems and hardware across the town and schools.
  • Assist in incident investigations involving physical breaches or threats.
  • Work on and manage special projects as assigned by the Chief Technology Officer.
  • Remain current on industry trends in information technology, investigate new technologies, and make recommendations to the Chief Technology Officer.
