About The Position

The Project Manager at the Barber National Institute plays a pivotal role in leading, coordinating, and delivering a diverse portfolio of IT and organizational projects. This role ensures that projects are completed within defined scope, quality, time, and budget parameters—often requiring thoughtful change management and business‑focused problem solving. The Project Manager works closely with sponsors, end users, technical experts, and leadership to drive business value and support organizational transformation. Working Conditions:This position includes both on‑site and remote work days as organizational needs allow. Some travel to Barber National Institute locations and external partners will also be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, project management, business management, or equivalent experience.
  • At least three years of IT experience demonstrating a strong commitment to solving business problems.
  • Minimum of two years in a junior or assistant project management role managing multiple projects or a large‑scale project.
  • Three or more years of business unit–facing experience.
  • Experience leading teams and applying strong interpersonal/soft skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with PMI, PRINCE2, Agile, and other project methodologies.
  • Ability to work in politically sensitive environments and collaborate with senior leadership.
  • Strong customer expectation‑management skills.
  • Balanced blend of business, IT, financial, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and how they support digital operations.
  • Leadership and motivational strengths with the ability to empathize and recognize personality differences.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing project proposals (POCs, SBARs, portfolio items) to determine scope, timeline, and resource needs.
  • Developing and maintaining project schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Leading and motivating project team members through the project life cycle.
  • Preparing staffing plans and coordinating resource assignments.
  • Executing a project communication plan outlining status, risks, next steps, and benefits.
  • Presenting updates during project status meetings, IT Steering Committee meetings, and other organizational briefings.
  • Conducting risk assessments and implementing mitigation plans.
  • Ensuring consistent, clear, high‑quality project documentation.
  • Aligning project goals with business objectives and tracking achievement.
  • Adjusting schedules and resources based on shifting needs or updates from the project team.
  • Setting standards for project reporting and documentation.
  • Continuously evaluating project management processes for improvements.
