At Commtech, a New Charter Company, we are seeking an experienced IT Project Engineer (in other organizations this role may be titled Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer or Network Security Project Engineer) to design and deliver infrastructure and network security projects for clients throughout the Greater New Orleans area. This is a onsite position in Metairie, LA requiring regular work at client locations throughout the Greater New Orleans area. In this role, you will lead hands-on deployments of FortiGate firewalls, Microsoft 365 migrations, server implementations, virtualization builds (VMware/Hyper-V), and network segmentation projects. You will collaborate with client stakeholders, internal technical teams, and project managers to execute secure, scalable infrastructure solutions using Windows Server, Active Directory, Entra ID, and modern security platforms. To be successful in this role, you take ownership of end-to-end project delivery including scoping, implementation, cutovers, and documentation while maintaining strong communication with client leadership. You will apply deep expertise in firewall configuration, VLAN segmentation, VPN setup, backup and disaster recovery solutions, and infrastructure upgrades to ensure projects are completed on time and aligned with best practices. General job duties include: Deploy and configure FortiGate firewalls Design and implement VLAN segmentation and network upgrades Configure IPSec and SSL VPNs Perform firewall firmware upgrades and HA configurations Lead server migrations and infrastructure refresh projects Implement Microsoft 365 migrations and Entra ID integrations Deploy virtualization environments (VMware or Hyper-V) Implement backup and disaster recovery solutions Execute project cutovers and after-hours implementations as needed Document configurations, diagrams, and change records

Requirements

Advanced level certs - CCNA, Fortinet SSC, advanced MS Advance, Azure Advanced
Proven ability to independently lead and fully implement end-to-end infrastructure and network security projects without supervision.
Exposure to compliance frameworks (CMMC, NIST, ISO)

Nice To Haves

3–6 years of infrastructure and project delivery experience
Hands-on experience deploying and configuring FortiGate firewalls (VLAN segmentation, NAT, security policies, IPSec/SSL VPNs)
Strong knowledge of Windows Server (2016/2019/2022), Active Directory, and Entra ID
Experience executing Microsoft 365 migrations and virtualization deployments (VMware or Hyper-V)
Strong technical documentation skills
MSP (Managed Service) experience
Fortinet experience and/or certifications (highly desired)
Experience implementing infrastructure or networking projects end-to-end
Exposure to compliance frameworks such as CMMC, NIST, or ISO
