About The Position

The IT Professional I meets the IT needs of a unit where multifaceted expertise is required. This role performs in specialty areas of systems, services, applications, and/or database management, and provides unit-level support in multiple technical fields. The position is with Texas A&M University, Department Technology Services - Strategic Alliances & Partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four months (1 semester) of student worker and/or customer service experience.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Experience configuring, administering, and/or troubleshooting.
  • Ability to lift and/or move medium weight objects.
  • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system.
  • Compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures.
  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Confers with other personnel in resolving problems involving procedural and technical matters.
  • Provides assistance in resolving hardware and software problems with vendor technical support.
  • Researches problems and recommends solutions.
  • Provides support through system administration assistance, creating and maintaining documentation and collaborating with higher‑level administrators to enhance understanding of system operations.
  • Installs, upgrades, and configures workstations and software.
  • Provides resource estimates and progress reports.
  • Ensures that work is accurate and in compliance with departmental or project quality standards.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable policies, rules, and procedures.
  • Ensures security of customer data and applications in all phases of production.
  • Participates on committees to develop technical standards and direction.
  • Meets with customers and technical staff to determine information technology needs and requirements.
  • Provides input for the planning and budget process.
  • Participates in training and professional development sessions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
