About The Position

The IT/OT Solution Architect for Watts Water is responsible for designing, integrating, and optimizing solutions at the intersection of Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT). This role bridges industrial systems, enterprise applications, cloud platforms, and cybersecurity frameworks to enable secure, scalable, and efficient business operations. The architect will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define architectures, standards, and roadmaps that support digital transformation and modern industrial automation initiatives. This role is remote (based on the East Coast) and reports to the Chief Architect.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 15+ years of experience in IT architecture, OT engineering, or industrial automation.
  • Strong understanding of industrial control systems (ICS), SCADA/DCS/PLC, MES, and IoT/IIoT technologies.
  • Expertise in IT infrastructure, networking, cloud platforms (Azure/AWS).
  • Hands-on knowledge of security controls and OT environment standards.
  • Experience with integration technologies, APIs, event-streaming platforms, and data analytics tools.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to explain complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Architecture & Solution Design Develop end-to-end IT/OT architectures that integrate SCADA, MES, PLC/DCS, IoT platforms, edge computing, cloud services, and enterprise systems (ERP, CMMS, etc.).
  • Evaluate existing environments and define modernization or migration strategies.
  • Create architecture diagrams, reference models, and design documentation.
  • Define standards and patterns for connectivity, data flow, protocols, and system interoperability.
  • Systems Integration Lead the integration of industrial control systems with IT applications, cloud services, and data analytics platforms.
  • Design secure data pipelines between OT assets and IT systems, including historians, data lakes, and digital twins.
  • Oversee configuration and deployment of industrial communication protocols (e.g., OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, PROFINET).
  • Cybersecurity & Compliance Implement cybersecurity architectures aligned with frameworks adopted at Watts Water.
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure segmentation between IT and OT networks.
  • Partner with security teams to develop patching, monitoring, and incident response processes for industrial environments.
  • Project Leadership & Collaboration Act as the technical lead for IT/OT integration initiatives and digital transformation projects.
  • Collaborate with engineers, IT teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to translate operational requirements into technical solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership during procurement, vendor selection, and technology evaluations.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement Stay current on emerging technologies in industrial IoT, automation, cloud, cybersecurity, and networking.
  • Recommend solutions that improve reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Support development of long-term architecture roadmaps and technology strategies.
