About The Position

General Overview The IT Intern provides hands-on support to the Information Technology team while gaining practical experience in a professional business environment. This role assists with day-to-day technical support, system maintenance, and IT projects that help ensure reliable and secure technology operations across the organization. The IT Intern will troubleshoot hardware and software issues, support end users, help maintain equipment inventory, and assist with documentation and process improvements. This position offers exposure to networking, cybersecurity fundamentals, system administration, and customer service best practices, while developing problem-solving, communication, and technical skills. This is a learning-focused opportunity designed to provide meaningful experience and mentorship in the field of Information Technology. The IT Intern will report directly to the IT Manager.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of computer hardware, operating systems (Windows and/or macOS), and common business software applications
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, SharePoint)
  • Foundational knowledge of networking concepts (IP addresses, Wi-Fi connectivity, VPN basics)
  • Awareness of cybersecurity fundamentals, including password security and phishing prevention
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users
  • Customer service mindset with a professional and patient approach
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and accept feedback
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
  • High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information responsibly
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach while supporting equipment setup and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 25–40 pounds (e.g., computers, monitors, printers).
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to install and connect computer hardware, cables, and peripherals.
  • Visual acuity to read screens, technical documentation, and small print on equipment labels.
  • Ability to travel between office locations or job sites, if required.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of help desk ticketing systems (preferred but not required)

Responsibilities

  • Provide first-level technical support to employees for hardware, software, and basic network issues.
  • Assist with setting up, imaging, configuring, and deploying laptops, desktops, and mobile devices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve common technical problems; escalate more complex issues to senior IT staff as needed.
  • Support user account management, including password resets and access provisioning under supervision.
  • Help maintain accurate IT asset inventory and documentation.
  • Assist with system updates, patching, and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes by preparing equipment and ensuring system access changes are completed.
  • Participate in IT projects such as system upgrades, cybersecurity initiatives, or process improvement efforts.
  • Document procedures, troubleshooting steps, and knowledge base articles.
  • Follow established security protocols and promote best practices for data protection and information security.
