AWC is hiring a full time IT Field Technician at our Regional Office in Dearborn MI. The shift is 8am-5pm Monday-Friday but some flexibility with overtime and weekends is required. For this position you must be willing to travel locally in the Metro Detroit area and travel via car or plane to our locations in other states as well as cross the border via car for our Canadian locations. Purpose The overall purpose and objective of this position is to provide technical assistance and support to the staff and clients of the organization, ensuring that their IT needs are met and that they can work efficiently and effectively with the available technology. The IT technician is responsible for troubleshooting and resolving issues related to hardware, software, network, and security, as well as providing training and guidance on best practices and new technologies. The IT technician also contributes to the planning and implementation of IT projects and initiatives, such as upgrading systems, installing new equipment, or migrating data. Essential Duties: Configure and install PC hardware, including installing application software, both store-bought and internally created (VIPS). Move user's critical data from one machine to another. Configure Office applications, map network drives and printers, configure local printers. Configure and install printers, both network and local, including dot-matrix, laser, and thermal. Configure and install wireless devices, including but not limited to PCs, printers, Bluetooth devices, and handheld PCs / scanners. Configure and Setup Servers as they arrive for use within the AWC company. The ability to upgrade and add devices to server class computers when necessary. Maintenance and Support Take support calls from users and respond quickly and professionally. Calls may come in before or after normal business hours. Identify malfunctioning or damaged PC components, and repair or replace as needed. Work with PC vendors to identify and replace components under warranty, taking care not to void the warranty. Identify printer problems, differentiating between minor problems that can be fixed in-house vs. using outside vendors. Identify wireless, and wired network issues Able to react to change productively, and handle other tasks as assigned. Working Conditions: Works primarily in an office environment, but the position may require travel and working in an outdoor environment or warehouse environment. This position requires the ability to sit for long periods.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, Associate's degree (or comparable work experience) in the computer hardware field.
  • Valid Driver's license to drive a company vehicle.
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize.
  • Possesses sound analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with computer hardware and application software including Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and computer networking.
  • Working Knowledge of multiple Operating Systems, working knowledge of TCP/IP configurations, configuring and installing a variety of software and hardware.
  • Working knowledge of a scripting language (i.e Powershell, VBscript)
  • Working knowledge of 802.11a/b/g/n, WEP, WPA and Access Point configurations.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively with vendors, customers, and AWC associates, and demonstrates patience and tact.
