About The Position

The IT Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership, vision, and direction for all technology support and field operations at Thomas Construction Group. This role blends day-to-day management of IT services with strategic oversight of infrastructure, vendor partnerships, and technology adoption in the field. Ensures initiatives align with overall business objectives, supports organizational growth, and enhances operational efficiency. The position ensures reliable, secure, and scalable IT operations to support the company’s continued long-term growth. The IT Director leads technology planning, oversees vendor and platform management, and drives innovation while maintaining a secure, cost‑effective, and high‑performing IT environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 8+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, with at least 3 in a director or senior management capacity.
  • Experience managing MSP relationships, cybersecurity, project leadership and vendor contracts.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise IT systems, cybersecurity, vendor management, and project leadership.
  • Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and team leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to balance hands-on support with strategic planning and cost management.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong knowledge of construction technology platforms (Procore, Sage, VDC tools preferred).
  • Construction or related industry experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary liaison between leadership team and MSP vendors, ensuring excellence in help desk, infrastructure, and cybersecurity services.
  • Oversee and negotiate relationships with all technology vendors, including but not limited to software, hardware, and mobile device providers.
  • Lead companywide software management, including implementation, upgrades, and adoption.
  • Track and optimize software usage to improve ROI and reduce costs.
  • Develop and manage the annual IT budget, including IT cost recovery models to allocate costs to projects and departments
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive technology strategy in partnership with the CEO that aligns with Thomas’s long‑term goals.
  • Create and maintain technology roadmaps, assessing future needs and recommending scalable solutions.
  • Participate in quarterly strategy sessions with the COO and leadership team.
  • Lead the execution of technology strategies that support business objectives and competitive positioning.
  • Research and adopt emerging technologies that improve productivity, efficiency, and client experience.
  • Ensure successful delivery of IT projects on time and within scope.
  • Act as an innovative AI watchdog and leads strategies for elevating technology for best-inclass uses (AI, new software innovations, etc) with a “field first” mentality.
  • Provide monthly and quarterly reports on IT performance, MSP service levels, utilization of software and hardware, budget tracking, and security posture.
  • Deliver executive‑level insights on trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Oversee and coordinate 3rd‑party technology audits.
  • Manage end-user support functions including helpdesk ticketing, hardware lifecycle, and mobile device management.
  • Develop and monitor IT service level standards to ensure timely resolution and user satisfaction.
  • Standardize IT setup and support protocols for project sites; ensure reliable jobsite connectivity.
  • Support adoption and training of field platforms (Procore, OpenSpace, Egnyte, Bridgit, etc.).
  • Provide leadership for MSP operations, including system uptime, maintenance, troubleshooting, and cybersecurity protocols.
  • Establish and enforce companywide IT policies, standards, and training.
  • Drive continuous improvement in IT support, ensuring high employee satisfaction.
  • Develop and manage the IT budget, focusing on cost‑effectiveness and long‑term ROI.
  • Lead vendor negotiations and ensure financial accountability for IT initiatives.
  • Oversee major technology initiatives, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and aligned with company goals. Support rollout and integration of business systems
  • Collaborate with business leaders to define scope, objectives, and success metrics.
  • Support Product Development -
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, legal requirements, and internal security policies.
  • Lead IT project planning, governance, and compliance with company policies.
  • Proactively manage and mitigate cybersecurity risks in collaboration with the MSP and leadership team.
  • Monitor cybersecurity posture, including Duo MFA, endpoint protection, and backups.
  • Serve as business-side product owner for third-party–developed portals, apps, and SQLbased solutions.
  • Translate business requirements into functional specifications for vendors and development partners.
  • Oversee the lifecycle of digital solutions, from design and testing through deployment and adoption.
  • Ensure new tools align with enterprise IT standards (security, data integration, user experience).
  • Manage vendor relationships for development projects, including scope, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Partner with Finance to align product development costs with IT cost recovery models.
  • Track adoption and ROI of digital solutions across business units.
