About The Position

This position requires an employee to work between 20-25 hours per week during the school semesters, and 40 hours per week during summer, not to exceed 1,500 hours in a calendar year. Each semester, undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and graduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours. INTERN GUIDELINES: Students who have completed at least one year of college and are enrolled as a full-time student may apply. Must be enrolled full-time in a degree seeking program. A student’s intern position will end within three months after graduation. Job Description: PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under the direction of the Supervisor-IT Database Administration or designee, is responsible for the installation, configuration, administration, and management of databases supported by the Information Technology department of City Utilities. Coordinates, controls, and organizes the automated data and information resources of the Utility. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Maintains knowledge and skillsets of RDMBS systems supported by the Information Technology department of City Utilities through online education, training, schools, conferences, seminars, publications, and other sources as appropriate and available. 2. Prepares DBA documentation that complies with current standards. 3. Helps users to navigate and use database functions. 4. Participates in team reviews and DBA Meetings. 5. Assists / Performs Day-to-Day DBA Tasks, User Migrations. 6. Accepts responsibility for learning new DB skills, Scripting Skills, tool sets, and platforms. 7. With aid of DB Administration Tools (like TOAD, Oracle SQL Developer, Redgate, Microsoft SSMS), performs basic DB Administration under guidance of Supervisor-IT DBA or designee. 8. Analyzes Database Logs, Notification and Reports for any alerts or abnormalities. Responds to database related problems, incidents, and concerns reported by City Utilities’ personnel or automated monitoring systems. 9. Frequent communication to the supervisor, of database administration activities and issues. 10. Performs other related duties as required or assigned by management. QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Working towards a bachelor’s degree with a major in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or a related field is required. Minimum two years of undergraduate work. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to: Make good decisions. Code relational database packages and stored procedures. Write basic scripts using the OS Commands and Tools like Linux Shell Scripting or PowerShell Scripting. Work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Think analytically, pay attention to detail, and review work for accuracy. Effectively utilize a range of digital tools and platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, enterprise software, artificial intelligence-enhanced applications, and self-service systems. Must possess a willingness and capacity to learn and adapt to emerging technologies, including mobile devices, cloud-based systems, and data-driven platforms relevant to utility operations. Familiarity with Windows, Linux and basic Database access and management tools (TOAD, SQLPLUS). Familiarity with basic query tools like SQL to fetch data and use SQL for DBA reporting. Maintain adherence to all company policies.
