The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, IT Services Division has an opportunity for one IT Database Administrator Analyst 2 to join the Applications Development Team. This position provides an opportunity to serve the citizens of Idaho. We seek candidates who have excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, a positive attitude with the skills to move forward in the ever changing world of Technology. The State of Idaho allows for Work/Life balance, and flex schedules. This position is located in downtown Boise. Requirements

  • Good knowledge of relational database principles and data normalization.
  • Good knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • Experience installing, administering, and monitoring production databases and database servers.
  • Experience interacting directly with clients to analyze customer needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a SQL Server DBA in a Windows Server Environment. Typically gained by 3 years of work experience.
  • Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO) of databases. Typically gained by 3 years of work experience.
  • Backups, Restores, recovery models including High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server in a clustered environment. Typically gained through a minimum of 2 years work experience.
  • Securing Data at Rest, Masking Data, patching SQL databases that run on Windows Servers. Typically gained by at a minimum of 2 years work experience.
  • Please provide any experience in administration in the following SQL areas: SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Integrated Services (SSIS), Data Warehousing and Azure SQL Database. Typically gained by a minimum of 2 years experience.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor health of SQL Server instances and production databases; perform backups, index tuning, integrity checks, and job management.
  • Diagnose and resolve performance issues using query plans, DMVs, and system metrics.
  • Maintain Always On Availability Groups, WSFC clusters, and off-site replication; validate DR readiness.
  • Manage user roles, permissions, and ensure compliance with security policies.
  • Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts for routine tasks, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Apply SQL Server patches; coordinate with infrastructure teams on VM and storage optimization.
  • Participate in planning for system upgrades, architecture improvements, and technology evaluations.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation; support internal knowledge transfer and training.
  • Contribute to modernization initiatives, application integration, and cross-functional projects.
  • Participate in on-call rotation to support production systems up 24/7.
