About The Position

The IT Consultant is a hands-on technical professional responsible for designing, supporting, and maintaining IT solutions for primarily municipal clients. This role requires broad expertise across systems administration, networking, cybersecurity, client communication, and project execution. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and capable of managing full-cycle IT projects in a fast-paced environment. This position involves direct collaboration with clients and leadership to deliver high-quality technical guidance and reliable technology solutions. Municipal IT experience is beneficial but not required.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of IT consulting or equivalent technical experience.
  • Strong proficiency with Windows 11 and Windows Server (2022/2025) environments.
  • Expertise in: Active Directory and Group Policy Server virtualization (Microsoft and/or VMware)
  • Hands-on networking experience, including: Wired and wireless infrastructure Firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, DNS, and network security
  • Familiarity with major networking vendors. (e.g., Cisco, Fortinet, Aruba)
  • Experience documenting issues and resolutions using a ticketing or service desk system.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with ConnectWise or similar IT service management / PSA platforms.
  • Relevant industry certifications in networking, server administration, or cybersecurity (e.g., Cisco, Microsoft, Fortinet, CompTIA, or equivalent.)

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of IT infrastructure solutions, including industrial control systems, enterprise applications, and network environments.
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to clients and leadership, providing strategic guidance, proactive support, and high-value consulting.
  • Ensure system security and reliability through patch management, firewall administration, monitoring, and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Architect, administer, and troubleshoot complex server, virtualization, and networking environments to maintain performance and scalability.
  • Drive full lifecycle IT projects, balancing technical excellence with timelines, budgets, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that enhance operational effectiveness, security posture, and client outcomes.
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support as needed and participate in a rotating on-call schedule for critical infrastructure support.
