About The Position

Chesapeake Biological Laboratory (CBL) is seeking an executive assistant who will provide support to the leadership of CBL. Located in Solomons, MD., CBL is one of four constituent research laboratories that form the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES), one of 12 institutions within the University System of Maryland. CBL has a 100 year heritage of research on the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Audio Video (AV) Support Specialist who is capable of working under limited supervision and skilled to manage the technical setup, operation, and maintenance of our campus audiovisual systems for various events, meetings, and conferences throughout various conference facilities within our campus in Solomons Maryland. The ideal candidate will ensure flawless execution of all audio-visual requirements, providing exceptional customer service and technical support to internal and external clients. This position regularly interacts with all levels of university officials, faculty, state and local officials, the public and employees. Requirements

  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of IT and AV experience, with a specialty in audio, video, lighting, and presentation.
  • Proficiency with AV equipment, specifically Crestron, digital audio consoles, video conferencing systems (e.g., Cisco Webex, Zoom, MS Teams), and various hardware and software platforms.
  • High level of problem-solving skills and the ability to recommend alternative setups for complex systems.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs., stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks such as climbing ladders and moving equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant certifications such as CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) or Crestron certification are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service, collabrrate with clients to understand their needs, and offer technical guidance to ensure a positive experience and successful events.
  • Accurately and timely operations for a wide range of audio, video, lighting, and Crestron projection equipment for meetings, events and conferences.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues with AV equipment and systems quickly and efficiently as they arise.
  • Assist with the proper security, storage, inventory and maintenance of equipment. Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs.
  • May supervise and direct other IT/AV Specialists during events to ensure smooth operations.
  • Document system configurations, create maintenance programs, and potentially train staff members on basic AV troubleshooting and operation procedures.
