An ISO / Tank Container Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and refurbishing ISO containers (intermodal containers) that are used for the transportation of various goods, including liquids, gases, chemicals, and dry freight. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and adherence to safety standards to ensure containers meet industry regulations and are in proper working condition for safe transport. Duties and Responsibilities Perform periodic test, and in-service inspections on ISO containers to identify defects, damages, and necessary repairs. Identify and repair structural components such as frames, cladding panels, valves, gaskets, and seals to ensure the container’s integrity. Repair tank systems, including the piping, valves, and pressure relief devices on tank containers. Ensure all repairs and maintenance work meet industry standards, including International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations as well as recognized industry guidelines (ITCO). Perform pressure tests and leak check on containers carrying liquids or gases . Document all inspections, maintenance, and repairs performed, ensuring accurate record keeping for regulatory compliance. Maintain tools, equipment, and the workspace to promote efficiency and safety. Work closely with operations and quality assurance teams to ensure the timely and safe repair of containers. Stay updated on industry best practices and regulatory changes related to container maintenance and safety. Job Requirements Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent; Proven experience as a mechanic, preferably in the container, transportation, or logistics industries. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Physical ability to lift heavy equipment and work in confined spaces or at heights. A valid driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of how to rebuild valves, install cladding, use of a torque wrench. Strong understanding of safety regulations, especially those governing hazardous materials and container transport. Ability to use diagnostic tools and testing equipment effectively Essential Qualifications: Able to work outside in variable weather conditions Ability to follow spoken and written instruction Ability to safely perform all tasks and understand Company’s safety policies and procedures Dependable transportation is required as well as the ability to work a flexible schedule if required (scheduled or unscheduled overtime, weekends, nights, and holidays) Employment is contingent upon the ability to pass required Safety Council training examinations, and all pre-employment screenings i.e. drug screen Language Skills Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. May be required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel; reach with hand and arms, and stoop, kneel or crouch as needed. May be required to lift 50 lbs. Work Environment Based at an ISO container depot, with a combination of office work and hands-on supervision of the depot yard. Travel from depot to depot will be required. May involve working outdoors in various weather conditions, around heavy machinery and equipment. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when in the yard or working near containers. Requirements
