About The Position

This is advanced technical work with administrative responsibility in planning, designing, implementing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining computer hardware and desktop PCs for a Property Appraiser’s department. Employees in this classification are responsible for activities pertaining to the planning, installation, support, and administration of applications, desktop PCs and printers, and PA-specific software. Incumbents supervise subordinate technical employees who install, configure, and support local area networks and computer equipment, troubleshooting activities, and end-user support. The employee is required to be technically proficient to maintain business continuity within the technical environment.

Requirements

  • Completion of 60 semester credits to include 15-semester credits in a computer-related field and a minimum of three (3) years of work experience; or completion of a vocational or trade school program and a minimum of four (4) years of experience; or high school diploma or GED and a minimum of six (6) year of work experience.
  • Work experience shall include planning, designing, implementing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing of desktop, workstation, and server computers, storage arrays, and related equipment.
  • Ability to read, speak, write, and understand English to effectively communicate with customers and employees by telephone, in written form, or face to face.
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard, calculator, telephone, and similar office machines.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Attends work regularly at the designated place and time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • This position is in-person and requires candidates to reside in South Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Provides senior-level technical support for all desktop computer systems and peripheral equipment.
  • Plans and coordinates PC installations to support PA events outside the department’s premises.
  • Conducts capacity planning and analysis of hardware and software that will enhance operating and development activities without adversely impacting the system or clients.
  • Isolates the nature of system failures or PC problems and utilizes diagnostic utilities.
  • Contacts/coordinates with outside service providers for problem resolution and configure the environment.
  • Tests new software applications and operating systems for compatibility and deployment.
  • Defines system objectives and prepares standards and procedures.
  • Evaluates business and equipment needs, documents equipment requirements, and requests quotes for equipment and accessories.
  • Installs and reformats desktop operating systems, including required drivers and updates on the operating system (OS).
  • Manages Print Server and naming conventions for network printers, copiers, and plotters.
  • Plans and coordinates the creation of images for the new computer models.
  • Develops and maintains documentation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as required.
  • Maintains a software and hardware inventory.
  • Performs related work as required.
