Pratt & Whitney has an exciting opportunity for an Independent Research & Development (IR&D) Administration Manager with the Military Engines Finance Organization. The position will be based onsite at our facilities in East Hartford, Connecticut . This position is listed as an onsite opportunity but is currently a hybrid based schedule. This will be discussed further during the interview process . As part of Pratt & Whitney’s IR&D team, the IR&D Administration Manager coordinates with both Commercial and Military Program Management, segment and Group FP&A, and the Engineering community to maintain an understanding of P&W’s discretionary Engineering and Development (E&D) spending and to uphold the integrity of Pratt & Whitney’s IR&D pool. This position requires an ability to understand both the financial and technical aspects of P&W E&D activity. This includes monitoring discretionary E&D effort and spending, as well as the E&D operating environment from a cost accounting and Government compliance standpoint. The IR&D Administration Manager will lead special IR&D and Government Finance-related projects as required. These will provide unique opportunities to interact with contacts throughout Finance as well as Engineering, Program Management, Contracts and Legal, often including interaction with Senior and Executive Management. These projects may involve, but are not limited to: litigation avoidance and support, strategic/long-term financial planning, and proactive cost accounting problem/issue avoidance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or engineering and 8+ years of applicable work experience; or an advanced degree in accounting, finance or engineering and 5+ years of applicable work experience.

  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to make decisions quickly & confidently

Nice To Haves

  • Aerospace industry (or P&W specific) engineering and finance experience.
  • Knowledge of US Government regulations (FAR, DFAR, CAS).
  • Experience with SAP.

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve Work Release Authorizations (WRAs) and Project Request Forms (PRFs), conversing with the involved engineers and program representatives as necessary to gain an understanding of the planned technical work and associated costs to assure their proper accounting treatment in SAP.
  • Develop actuals reporting and estimate-to-complete projections, out-year planning and ad-hoc financial/technical reporting for Government and internal business clients on a monthly, quarterly, and annual (year-end) basis.
  • Collaborate with Government Finance to support P&W’s Forward Pricing rates as well as Final Incurred Cost Claims, and associated audits.
  • Serve as a point of contact for Government technical audits of the IR&D pool, interfacing with Engineering to produce satisfactory contractor responses.
  • Coordinate with Engineering to produce P&W’s annual IR&D Technical Plan, which provides the U. S. Government with narratives of P&W’s IR&D technical accomplishments.
  • Team with the EVMS COE and Engineering to develop/mistake-proof the work steps for authorizing WRAs to ensure a consistent auditable approach that supports P&W’s IR&D claims.
  • Keep management apprised of any issues that could impact Military Engines financial performance.
