About The Position

Work for the IMF. Work for the World. The Investment Unit within the Fund's Finance Department is seeking a qualified candidate for the function of (Senior) Investment Officer, with a specific focus on investment operations. The Investment Unit is responsible for overseeing the management of the Investment Account (IA) and Trust Investment Assets (TA) with combined assets around US$100 billion. The IA includes the Fixed Income Subaccount and the long-term, multi-asset Endowment Subaccount. The TA includes investment assets of the PRGT, RST, CCRT, and HIPC. Day-to-day investment management activities for the IA and TA are handled largely by external managers while the recording of transactions is performed by a third-party investment service provider, which serves as the official book of records.

Requirements

  • Advanced University degree, or equivalent, in economics, business administration or financial analysis, supplemented by a minimum of four (4) years (five (5) years preferred) of relevant professional work experience is required; or a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, supplemented by ten (10) years of relevant professional experience, is required. Alternatively, a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience at grade A10, or equivalent, is required.
  • Sound knowledge of investment theory and practice.
  • An understanding of investment portfolio and performance (preferred) with required investment accounting and private asset operations, knowledge required.
  • Sound understanding of the characteristics of a wide range of assets, including fixed income instruments, public equities, private assets and derivatives.
  • Experience in the middle and/or back office of the investment arm of an official institution, central bank, or other institutional investor involving interacting with a custodian or third-party investment professionals is highly desirable.
  • Experience with application of International Financial Reporting Standards, especially for financial instruments, is strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent spreadsheet skills with a high level of attention to detail and approach for continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated writing and communications skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and in a multi-cultural team environment.

  • Professional certifications such as CPA or CA, CFA, or FRM are highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Verifying monthly reports prepared by the third-party investment service provider, including accounting reports to ensure validation of the reported net asset value (NAV) on a timely basis.
  • Preparing all investment-related disclosures in the financial statements in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) on a periodic basis.
  • Performing pricing checks on valuations provided by third-party service provider and assessing reasonability of fair value levelling hierarchy.
  • Reviewing SOC1 (or equivalent reports) of third-party reporting service providers and assessing any control deficiencies.
  • Liaising with the Fund’s external audit firm and IMF financial reporting team to provide supporting documentation related to investments and monthly sign-off on investment accounts.
  • Overseeing the valuation process for private investments including preparing desktop valuations and reviewing annual financial statements and SOC reports.
  • Conducting private market-related operations, including new fund onboarding, processing capital calls and distributions, managing foreign exchange risk, cash management and other matters that may arise from time to time.
  • Reviewing periodic reports on private assets to monitor capital commitment, expense ratio and other IMF needs that arise from time to time.
  • Coordinating investment activities including Trust-related investments with various internal stakeholders.
  • Contributing to daily investment operations, including rebalancing portfolios, funding external managers, managing internal portfolios, and investing temporary cash balances.
