About The Position

The Assistant Investment Officer (AIO) is a hybrid position within the City’s Investment Division, with a combination of on-site and remote work, reporting to the Chief Investment Officer and working alongside a Senior Investment Officer, a fellow Assistant Investment Officer, and a Senior Management Analyst. The AIO supports the management of the City’s short-duration fixed income portfolios while also contributing to the Division’s broader operational functions. This role is well-suited for a fixed income professional who is looking to grow their career in public sector investment management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, or a related field; CFA designation or MBA preferred and
  • 5-7 years of professional experience in the investment management field.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience investing in and managing short-duration fixed income portfolios, including corporate bonds, government and agency securities, asset-backed securities (ABS), and money market instruments, with a demonstrated understanding of interest rate risk, duration management, and yield curve positioning.
  • Proficiency in credit analysis of investment-grade corporate bond and money market instruments including evaluation of issuer financial statements, credit metrics, covenant structures, and spread analysis, as well as familiarity with the analysis of structured products such as asset-backed securities (ABS).
  • Hands-on fixed income trading experience, including familiarity with trade execution, settlement processes, and best execution practices; intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for portfolio analytics, scenario modeling, and reporting; and working knowledge of the Bloomberg Terminal for security screening, pricing and relative value analysis.
  • Knowledge of fixed income portfolio compliance monitoring, liquidity management, and risk reporting relevant to public fund investment guidelines; experience with investment accounting or portfolio management systems (e.g., Sympro, BondEdge, or similar); and some familiarity with regulatory frameworks governing public entity investments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform credit analysis of corporate bonds and money market instruments, credit risk monitoring, and portfolio exposure analysis.
  • Support trading activities and assist in portfolio management, including trade execution, securities settlement, and ongoing monitoring of portfolio positioning.
  • Assist in portfolio accounting reconciliation, including with the investment accounting system, Sympro.
  • Contribute to month-end reporting, and compliance tasks.
  • Reinforce the Division’s operational resilience by supporting banking and merchant credit card processes—overseeing contracts, preparing RFPs, reconciling and approving invoices, and liaising with City departments, Information Technology, ERP, and external banking and processing firms.
