Global Investment Strategy (GIS) is a unit of the Chief Investment Office (CIO) organization that is responsible for the management of the $400 billion General Account, which includes the domestic and international insurance investment portfolios of Prudential Financial Inc and affiliates. The GIS team is responsible for portfolio construction, relative value assessment, new investment opportunities, cross portfolio strategy, active portfolio risk management, ALM strategy and analytics for the insurance portfolios. We are seeking an Investment Associate to join our Investment Strategy team. In this role you will provide critical, hands-on support in the research, development, and implementation of the General Account’s investment strategies. The individual will work closely with General Account portfolio managers, internal asset managers, and risk management to create top-down portfolio construction frameworks. The current EWA for this position is Hybrid and requires your on-site presence 3 days a week in Newark, NJ.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate is motivated, enjoys being challenged, and works well individually and in a team-based environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 4-7 years of investment and/or risk management experience is required
  • Understanding of portfolio construction within an insurance business
  • Ability to work with large datasets
  • Understanding of optimization and risk models
  • Strong technical proficiency, including Python, and experience building reports in Tableau
  • Capital markets knowledge with experience in a variety of asset classes including corporate bonds, securitized products, and mortgage loans
  • Strong communicator, coordinator and thought partner; as well as ability to problem solve and explain solutions (both oral and written)
  • Excellent project management skills

Nice To Haves

  • Are pursuing a CFA designation and/or MBA
  • Had previous experience in investments, credit analysis or fixed income
  • Knowledge of insurance capital frameworks

Responsibilities

  • Support the creation of top down portfolio construction frameworks
  • Lead the build-out and maintenance of portfolio construction reporting and infrastructure using Python, Tableau, Aladdin, and cloud-based tools.
  • Translate complex quantitative models into clear insights for investment teams and senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with Financial Reporting & Analysis to improve data systems, pipelines, and automation capabilities
  • Participate in the development and implementation of General Account investment strategies including idea generation across a broad range of public and private asset classes.
  • Contribute to engagements with asset managers on new opportunities and provide insurance investment knowledge to optimize investments for insurance balance sheets.
  • Coordinate and partner with other groups within CIO (e.g., Global Portfolio Management, Manager of Managers) and corporate functions (e.g., Enterprise Risk Management, Corporate Actuarial, Treasurer’s Department, External Affairs, Tax and Finance) in understanding and addressing portfolio issues.
  • Engage in broad portfolio surveillance across multiple fixed income asset classes.
  • Contribute to strategic portfolio outlook and positioning through regular relative value and risk assessment discussion.
