About The Position

Security Benefit is seeking an Investment Accounting Transformation Consultant to support a multi-year, finance-wide initiative to migrate the general ledger from legacy PeopleSoft to Oracle system. This role will be investment accounting–specific and will serve as the primary liaison between the Investment Accounting team and the broader finance transformation program. This is a long-term contract position (12+ months) supporting system conversion, process design, data migration, testing, and go-live readiness for investment accounting activities. This role functions in a consultative and advisory capacity, combining deep investment accounting expertise with systems and process leadership. The consultant will represent investment accounting interests throughout the ledger conversion, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and operational readiness. While not a formal project manager role, this position includes ownership of investment accounting deliverables, issue identification, risk escalation, and coordination with internal and external partners. The Investment Accounting Transformation Consultant reports to the AVP, Head of Investment Accounting and can be based out of our Overland Park, Kansas location. We work a hybrid schedule, offering flexibility to work both remotely and on-site.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in Investment Accounting, preferably within insurance or financial services
  • Strong knowledge of investment accounting processes, including general ledger activity, product allocations, and reconciliations
  • Experience supporting or leading ERP or ledger conversion projects (PeopleSoft, Oracle, or similar)
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a consultative, senior advisor role across business and technical teams
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and issue-escalation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with senior leadership

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with PeopleSoft GL and/or Oracle Financials
  • Familiarity with outsourced accounting platforms or PAM providers
  • Experience with system testing, data validation, and financial controls
  • Background working in large, cross-functional transformation initiatives

Responsibilities

  • Act as the subject matter expert for the PeopleSoft to Oracle ledger migration
  • Represent Investment Accounting in cross-functional project meetings and design sessions
  • Provide guidance on investment accounting treatment, ledger structure, and posting logic
  • Identify accounting risks, gaps, and roadblocks and escalate findings to leadership
  • Partner with Finance, IT, and external vendors to design future-state investment accounting processes
  • Support migration of product allocations and investment activity from the legacy ledger to Oracle
  • Identify opportunities for process efficiency, standardization, and control enhancement
  • Ensure compatibility and continuity of the outsourced PAM General Ledger feed within the new Oracle environment
  • Collaborate with external vendors and internal teams to resolve data, mapping, and integration issues
  • Serve as an investment accounting liaison between business users and technical teams
  • Lead and support investment accounting user acceptance testing (UAT) activities
  • Validate that solutions meet business and accounting requirements prior to go-live
  • Support cutover planning and post-implementation stabilization for investment accounting
  • Provide regular status updates, risk assessments, and recommendations to Investment Accounting leadership
  • Document decisions, issues, and resolutions to support auditability and knowledge transfer
  • Partner with the broader project team while maintaining accountability for investment accounting outcomes
