A Brief Overview Collaborates amongst functional areas to accurately understand and summarize investment accounting policies, including evaluating risk and challenges. Works with Vice President and others on the team to develop areas of focus for accounting, process or reporting improvements and works to implement approved changes What you will do Evaluates accounting implications of new investment strategies, and documents accounting policies for investments. Reviews and analyzes Investment Accounting information ensuring accuracy of data and value-add analysis and reporting. Participates in the design and structure of Investment Accounting solutions that lead to efficient controls and processes as well as improved analysis and reporting. Works with various business units to ensure information needed is provided in a timely manner. Works with other functional areas to achieve efficient and effective accounting and reporting practices and procedures. Collaborates within Investment Accounting to support peers’ teams. Coordinates and summarizes investment information for internal and external examiners. Fosters a positive and engaged work environment. Mentors associates and gives guidance on associate development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in Accounting/Finance or Business Administration or equivalent related work experience
  • 8+ Years insurance accounting, auditing or Investment Accounting experience
  • 2+ Years supervisory or management experience
  • Basic Word, intermediate Excel and SQL/Query skills
  • Advanced knowledge of broad business practices
  • Knowledge of Investment Accounting and financial transactions.
  • Highly advanced knowledge of accounting/finance, including tax accounting and GAAP and statutory requirements
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new methods, work under tight deadlines and stressful conditions
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received;
  • Advanced ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional and technical disciplines
  • Advanced investigative, analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Advanced ability to translate business needs and problems into viable/accepted solutions
  • Ability to work well within a team environment, participate in department/team projects and balance detail with departmental objectives
  • Advanced ability to manage multiple projects and/or teams simultaneously
  • Advanced skills in customer relationship management and change management
  • Advanced persuasion and negotiating skills when working with internal/external customers
  • Highly advanced level of people management skills, demonstrating the ability to lead, mentor, and develop associates; including the ability to delegate key areas of responsibility;
  • Ability to resolve conflict and foster teamwork

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Arts/Sciences (MA/MS) or CPA
  • Public accounting experience
  • Advanced experience with GAAP accounting
  • 3+ Years insurance/reinsurance accounting experience
  • FLMI or CFA Charter holder
