About The Position

Investigates all criminal violation reports initiated by themselves and uniformed patrol officers to assure all crimes committed against persons or property in Hall County are thoroughly investigated, suspects questioned, and leads followed until a case is resolved and successfully prosecuted.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two or more years of investigative experience preferred.
  • Possess a valid Georgia driver’s license
  • Applicant must be a P.O.S.T. certified officer in good standing
  • Technological background in computers, Power Point and internet research.
  • Position requires flexibility, self-motivation, a cooperative team effort and a very detailed and organized person.
  • Knowledge of modern procedures, processes, and techniques involved in criminal investigations.
  • Knowledge of departmental policies and practices in criminal investigations.
  • Knowledge of city geography.
  • Ability to understand and execute difficult and complicated oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to understand and analyze complex problems and situations and adapt quick, reasonable, and effective courses of action in difficult circumstances.
  • Ability to operate cameras, video equipment, audio equipment, and fingerprinting equipment used in the collection, processing and preservation of evidence for court admissibility.
  • Ability to obtain information through interviews, investigations, and interrogations.
  • Skill in the care and use of firearms.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate all private warrants and citizen complaints.
  • Review all cases prior to indictment or accusation for readiness.
  • Conduct supplemental investigations as needed.
  • Evaluate all physical evidence prior to trial and maintain custody of that evidence until tendered and admitted to the Court of jurisdiction.
  • Provide access to physical evidence to defense counsel for their review prior to trial.
  • Conduct pre-trial interviews with witnesses and victims of crime.
  • Conduct interviews of defense witnesses and evaluate/investigate their claim.
  • Assist ADA in preparing visual aids to assist officers, witnesses and victims in their court testimony.
  • Locate and subpoena witnesses as well as transport indigent witnesses to and from court.
  • Assist ADA in trial with evidence and maintain an evidence log.
  • View crime scenes prior to trial to assist in trial preparation.
  • Copy or make available all photographs, video and audio recorded interviews to defense counsel prior to trial.
  • Request reports from all law enforcement agencies.
  • Rotate an on-call schedule to be available to law enforcement 24/7/365 to assist in legal issues and be the liaison for the District Attorney and law enforcement.
  • Any other duties as delegated by the District Attorney.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
