About The Position

ABOUT US: Travis Association for the Blind/Austin Lighthouse (TAB) a non-profit organization, was founded in 1934 by Dr. Henry L. Hilgartner and other civic-minded citizens of Austin to provide a setting where blind men and women could come to learn skills and create products that were sold door to door. Today, Travis Association for the Blind stays true to the mission established in 1934 by providing opportunities for economic and personal independence for people who are blind, visually impaired, or deaf blind by creating, sustaining, and improving employment. Responsibilities Supervise the warehouse specialists to ensure that warehousing tasks are being performed properly. Verify materials and/or merchandise against receiving documents, noting and reporting discrepancies and obvious damages. Count incoming stock for verification and after classification of the product. Route materials to prescribed storage locations; storing, stacking, or palletizing materials in accordance with prescribed storage methods. Rearranging and taking inventory of stored materials. Examine stored materials and reporting deterioration and damage. May operate hand or power trucks in performing warehousing duties. Verify the correctness of incoming shipments by comparing items and quantities Complies with and assists other employees understand and comply with TAB's Safety and Security policies and guidelines. Requirements

  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
  • Knowledge for providing customer and personal services.
  • Knowledge of safety around heavy machinery
  • Basic Computer skills
  • Basic Mathematics
  • Critical thinking
  • Time management
  • The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing or in alternate form.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with supervisor, coworkers, and other departments.
  • Demonstrates sound work ethics
  • Possesses cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent
  • Certified and/or be able to certify, on all material handling equipment used by TAB
  • Have strong dexterity capabilities to grasp, assemble, and manipulate objects.
  • Ability to be in a stationary position (stand/sit) for 7-8 hours
  • The ability to lift/move 10-25lbs items/products repeatedly.
  • The ability to endure extreme temperatures in a warehouse setting.
  • The ability to navigate safely in small or large areas/environment.
  • Prolonged periods of working on a computer
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, adjust position for 50% of time
  • Background Check and Drug Screen required
  • Verifiable documentation of ability to work in the US
