About The Position

Interview clients to determine eligibility of health care services provided by Nassau County Health Department on established criteria and perform updates as required. Verify and collect client and family income, residency, insurance status and other demographic and personal data as required. Scan copy of insurance card and driver’s license into client EMR. Register client and make appointment into appropriate clinic based on client needs and clinic guidelines and give client appointment card. Encourage patients to register for text message appointment reminder notices. Greet clients and visitors, making sure all clients sign in for appointments. Collect fees and remind patient of outstanding balances. Prepare client record for clinic ensuring all forms are included in intake folder. Prepare billings, run end of day reports, balance cash drawer, and prepare weekly deposits. Reschedule clients and notify clients of any appointment changes when necessary and complete reminder calls for client appointments. Answer phone, screen calls, receive and relay client messages to appropriate staff in timely manner.

Requirements

  • Ability to collect correct client information in a timely manner
  • Ability to work effectively with a health care team and maintain an effective working relationship with others
  • Ability to perform tasks common to their paraprofessional position
  • Ability to recognize the limitation of one’s own knowledge and skills
  • Ability to recognize areas of their own practice in need of improvement
  • Ability to teach other staff in the theory and practice of their position
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication and ability to apply them
  • Ability to plan, organize and effectively carry out work assignments
  • Knowledge of clinic clerical practices, policies and procedures and the ability to apply them.
  • High School Diploma
  • Driver’s License
  • 1 year clerical experience working in a medical office

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year customer service experience with direct contact with the public
  • Experience using computers and basic office software (email, data entry systems, etc.)
  • Experience with electronic medical records
  • Experience with medical billing
