Bilingual in Spanish & English required along with medical interpreting coursework completed. Facilitates basic communication between clinical staff and clients or patients, which includes parents or guardians. Communication may take place in a medical or community setting, providing interpretation, sight translation and/or simple translation on an after-visit summary (AVS). Assists in facilitating communication between staff and clients or patients, which includes patients and their parents or guardians, before, during, and after treatment using less complex medical terminology. Interprets in a limited number of situations and settings, e.g. appointments meetings, examinations, treatment session. Provides non-English speaking patients and families with an appropriate sight translation of medical/social/health care information and other important documents from an English version. Attends in-services and educational meetings to maintain and enhance professional expertise. Attends and contributes to assigned committees, task forces, special projects. Simple translation, proof reading, editing for the final version of after visit information in the electronic health record (Epic) or MS Word. May provide additional down-time support with scheduling, audits, special projects, or Welcome Centers. Exhibits guiding behaviors that reflect Children's values and support our mission and vision

Requirements

Completion of at least 1 semester of a medical interpreting program to include ethics, medical terminology or proven linguistic abilities in medical interpreting and ongoing enrollment. or Completion of 40 hour online medical interpreting course.
Requires at least High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED).
Requires at least 1 year of general work experience.
Ability to pass language verbal proficiency test with overall score of Advanced Mid.
Bilingual who speaks, reads and writes proficiently in both native and target languages with ability to break linguistic and cultural barriers between patients and medical staff.
Ability to shift from one language to another in simultaneous and consecutive mode of interpreting.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology used in primary care, lab, imaging and dental services through completion of medical terminology class or proven linguistic abilities in medical interpreting.
Knowledge of National Code of Ethics in Health Care (NCIHC) code of ethics.
Computer and word processing expertise including MS Word and Outlook, comfort with technology to work within our electronic health record.
Good customer service skills, strong communication skills and excellent listening skills.
Effective organizational skills with attention to detail including ability to prioritize and assess needs.

Nice To Haves

prefer a bachelors degree in Spanish or related field for individuals who completed an online course vs. longer program.
