About The Position

At AM General our Quality Interns support vehicle manufacturing operation by assisting with activities aligned to the Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO and IATF requirements. The roles provide multi-faceted exposure to supplier quality, compliance, and product inspection and process verification across the manufacturing lifecycle. The intern supports documentation, monitoring, and verification of quality requirements from incoming supplier materials through in-process controls and final product release, while collaborating cross-functionally with Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to support conformity to customer, regulatory, and internal quality standards.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, with junior or senior standing preferred
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to clearly and accurately document technical and quality-related information.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional, production-focused environment.
  • High level of professionalism, reliability, and attention to detail.
  • Interest in quality systems, program management, production processes, and vehicle integration.
  • Sight: must be able to regularly read computer screen, reports, and various documents with detail and clarity to accomplish work tasks in a safe and efficient manner, including regular use of adequate close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • Hearing: must be able to regularly hear well enough to communicate
  • Hand-Eye Coordination: must be able to regularly coordinate one’s eyes with one’s fingers, wrists, or arms to move, carry, or manipulate objects or to perform other job-related tasks
  • Manual Dexterity: must be able to regularly make quick, accurate, skillful, and coordinated movement with hands and arms to grasp, place, move, or use objects such as phone, computer, and other office equipment, tools, or controls
  • Agility: must be able to regularly bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with the body, arms, or legs to perform job tasks, including the ability to move throughout all areas of the facility, Company’s property surrounding facility, or additional work areas
  • Climbing / Kneeling: must be able to occasionally climb, kneel, bend over, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, with balance
  • Lifting: must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds with or without assistance
  • Physical Strength: must be able to occasionally lift, push, pull, or carry objects using hands, arms, back, abdominal muscles, shoulders, legs, or a combination of these muscle groups
  • Stamina: must be able to occasionally exert oneself physically over long periods of time, including performing repetitive or strenuous tasks as well as standing and sitting for long periods

  • Exposure to or a basic understanding of ISO/IATF preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the Supplier Quality team to support part testing activities for new and ongoing program launches.
  • Assist in coordinating and orchestrating part testing plans in alignment with supplier quality requirements and program timelines.
  • Facilitate the scheduling and execution of part testing at supplier facilities, ensuring adherence to defined testing protocols, specifications, and timelines.
  • Collect, compile, and organize data generated from part testing across multiple suppliers and programs.
  • Analyze test data to identify trends, risks, or potential quality concerns and escalate findings as appropriate.
  • Support documentation of test results, deviations, and corrective actions in accordance with quality procedures.
  • Assist in preparing clear, data-driven reports, summaries, and presentations highlighting key findings, risks, and recommendations for management review.
  • Participate in cross-functional discussions with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality teams to support supplier quality objectives.
  • Gain exposure to supplier quality processes, launch readiness activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Gain on-the-job experience and exposure to automotive quality tools and methodologies, including ISO9001, Corrective Actions - 8D's & 3x5 whys, and IATF 16949 requirements.
  • Assist with data collection, reporting, and presentation of quality metrics used for compliance monitoring and management review.
