About The Position

In collaboration with the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice (MOCJ), the Housing Works Justice Initiatives is launching a new pilot program, CREATE: Cannabis Reentry Education And Training Experience. This program is designed to provide individuals 21 years of age and older with previous justice-involvement with specialized classroom and on-the-job training to prepare individuals for a career in the newly emerging Cannabis Retail industry. It is an eight-week, paid training program that includes two-weeks of classroom training and six-weeks of on-the-job training in a designated NYC licensed cannabis dispensary. Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Internship Supervisor will be primarily responsible for coordinating client internships, conducting internship site visits, providing vocational counseling and job coaching services to clients assigned to caseload, managing human resource and payroll functions of the internships, managing and maintaining contact with licensed dispensary leaders. Candidates for the Internship Supervisor position will ideally have experience working with individuals, or communities, impacted by the criminal legal system, knowledge of the retail or cannabis industry, skilled in providing workforce development or employment readiness services and a passion for participating in the development of this newly emerging sector.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalency required.
  • Minimum 1 year experience providing employment readiness or workforce development services.
  • Experience working with individuals, or communities, impacted by the criminal legal system.
  • Proficient knowledge of the cannabis retail industry and NYS regulations.
  • Strong written documentation and communication skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to work autonomously.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, required.
  • Experience utilizing electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
  • Dependability and reliability to arrive and depart timely for scheduled shift.
  • Ability to frequently travel within the boroughs via public transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred.
  • Preferably bi-lingual in Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with facilitating classroom training workshops focused on employment readiness and soft skills building.
  • Participate in outreach and tabling events to promote program enrollment.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining relationships with licensed dispensary partners.
  • Conduct internship orientations with clients prior to the start of the internships.
  • Coordinate internship placements with the designated dispensaries.
  • Conduct bi-weekly internship site visits for all actively enrolled participants.
  • Manage human resource and payroll functions of the internship component.
  • Assess and determine readiness for employment by identifying risk factors and treatment needs; refer clients to Case Manage to coordinate necessary referrals for wraparound services.
  • Utilize database to complete progress notes and other client-related data.
  • Actively participate in individual supervisions with assigned supervisor.
  • Promote Housing Works’ core values in day-to-day activities.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Provide culturally competent services in accordance to Housing Works policies and practices.
  • Ability to work with clients with diverse clients with varying levels of service needs.
  • Works collaboratively with other team members within the Justice Initiatives Department and cross-agency.
