About The Position

Supports student recruitment, admissions, and academic progression and campus engagement of international students. Provides services related to F & M Visa holders as a Designated School Official (DSO).

Requirements

  • Requires general knowledge of office practices and procedures.

  • Position requires a BA/BS degree in marketing, business, liberal arts, or a related area. Comparable experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident in order to meet Department of Homeland Security's eligibility requirements to be a Designated School Official (DSO).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of community college recruiting and marketing, and experience working with international students is preferred.
  • Bilingual skills are preferred.
  • Experience working in post-secondary student services with international students is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates immigration status for F and M visa holders:
  • Serves as a Designated School Official (DSO), authorized by the US Department of Homeland Security, and is responsible for Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVIS) updates and records maintenance. Interprets federal immigration regulations and maintains knowledge of Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) guidelines and SEVIS procedures that affect international students and their dependents. Creates new records, updates student's information, and registration. Documents all actions.
  • Assists international students in obtaining information on authorizations of on-campus employment, Curricular Practical Training (CPT), Optional Practical Training (OPT) per appropriate federal regulations.
  • Supports international student admissions process:
  • Ensures students follow LBCC's admission process for F-1 and M-1 visa holders. Collects all required documents such as bank statements, affidavits of support, financial guarantees, passports, I-94s, and visas, language assessment scores, college transcripts, and placement testing for eligibility. Issues relevant documents upon student's acceptance.
  • Assists in organizing the international student entry process including international student orientation, First Resort orientation, and connections with academic advisors and academic coaches. Collaborates with academic advisors and academic coaches in supporting F-1 and M-1 students.
  • Supports student retention and engagement activities:
  • Provides ongoing student retention assistance, including informing students of and interpreting college academic policies and practices. Refers students to their navigators and academic advisors. Keeps accurate records in Watermark to aid other staff in helping students.
  • Primary user of college's CRM of Banner Module, Watermark, and Google Office Suite. Responsible for updating and maintaining the international application, website and electronic forms for prospective and current students. Communicates electronically with students and maintains administrator privileges for social media forums for LBCC's International Office.
  • Assists Global Ambassadors and International Office Assistant to organize international student events.
  • Collaborates with Degree Partnership Program to support the LBCC/OSU Degree Partnership Program.
  • Monitors students' academic performance in relation to satisfactory progress for academic standing, and requirements for retention of their F-1 student visas.
  • Maintains current foundational knowledge about academic programs. Contacts students who withdraw from classes.
  • Coordinates administrative requirements for international students
  • Ensures students meet health insurance requirements. In accordance with the college and health provider's business processes, assists students to enroll in the plan offered by LBCC.
  • Complies with NAFSA's ethical principles as well as FERPA rules.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
