About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Golden Valley, MN is looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our Internal Medicine department! As an Internal Medicine Veterinary Assistant, you will assist the technicians and internists in caring for our clients and patients. This can include getting patient updates, restraining patients for blood draws or catheter placements, obtaining lab samples, filling prescriptions or assisting with endoscopic or ultrasound procedures. You will be involved with client contact through phone calls, email, and in person conversations.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and assist with endoscopic procedures (GI, nasal, urinary, airway) and clean and maintain equipment following procedure.
  • Discharge Internal Medicine patients from the hospital, including basic client education such as insulin injection, SQ fluid, and feeding tube demonstrations.
  • Help maintain a clean and well-organized hospital
  • Understand the classification of commonly used medications associated side effects, and appropriately monitor therapeutic response
  • Vitals: accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort
  • Work with state-of-the-art software such as Cornerstone and Instinct
  • Communicate with owners to obtain patient updates and relay clinician’s recommendations
  • Running samples on IDEXX blood machines, Imagyst reader
  • Assist with advanced imaging such as digital radiographs and ultrasounds
  • Additional job duties as assigned.
