About The Position

The Internal Communications Manager in our Marketing dept. plays a key role in engaging UCSF Health employees, supporting Business Unit leaders, and driving systemwide communications initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Internal and Executive Communications, this individual contributor role is part of a growing team dedicated to telling the stories of UCSF Health, fostering alignment, and helping to advance the institution’s mission in service of patients. This is a hands-on role for a strong communicator with at least five years of experience in internal communications. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys crafting compelling messages, and can navigate a complex, matrixed organization to deliver effective and engaging communications. They will develop and implement internal communication strategies, produce content across multiple channels, and collaborate with colleagues across UCSF to ensure cohesive messaging. This position requires the ability to be on-site in San Francisco at least one day a week. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors, including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. The annual salary range for this position is $101,300-$216,700, with a target entry point of $150,390+, depending on experience. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or four years of relevant experience.
  • Five years or more of experience in internal communications, preferably in a healthcare or large organizational setting.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute internal communications strategies that drive employee engagement.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences and formats.
  • Strong analytical skills to measure communication effectiveness and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Proficiency with internal communications tools, including intranet platforms, email management systems, and content management tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and provide strategic counsel to leaders.
  • A hands-on, execution-focused approach with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong project management skills with experience leading large-scale communication initiatives.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism, which are foundational values central to the UCSF’s mission.
  • Ability to work on-site in San Francisco at least one day per week.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in an academic medical center or large healthcare system.
  • Advanced knowledge of the organization, including its mission, vision, goals, policies, and infrastructure; strong knowledge of current affairs and issues in higher education and/or health sciences.
  • Familiarity with employee engagement strategies and best practices.
  • Knowledge of change management communication principles and experience supporting organizational transformations.
