The Internal Auditor at Santa Barbara City College is responsible for managing the internal audit process for the District. This role involves planning, organizing, and conducting various types of audits, including financial compliance audits and operational audits. The Internal Auditor serves as the technical expert on audit matters, providing recommendations to ensure effective internal controls and compliance with regulations.

  • Develop and implement a District-wide internal audit program.
  • Develop and implement internal audit policies and procedures.
  • Test and evaluate compliance with federal and state laws, and District policies and procedures.
  • Determine the accuracy and reliability of accounting and financial systems.
  • Plan and conduct investigations of various transactions and fiscal operations.
  • Review and investigate potential fraud and theft.
  • Conduct unannounced internal audits to detect fraud.
  • Coordinate and assist with audits conducted by outside agencies.
  • Monitor the District's tip line and perform follow-up investigations.
  • Report audit findings and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Implement and update accounting procedures and systems.
  • Conduct follow-up reviews on recommendations made by auditors.
  • Recommend appropriate accounting treatment for year-end adjustments.
  • Develop, plan, organize, and manage assigned staff.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience as an auditor.
  • Experience in financial or operational auditing.
  • Understanding of governmental accounting and auditing procedures.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Experience working in higher education, especially California Community Colleges.
  • Understanding of participatory governance environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete tasks/projects in a timely manner.
