About The Position

Summary: Create, manage, and execute risk-based internal audits that support the Credit Union’s Supervisory Committee in fulfilling their fiduciary and regulatory responsibilities. Support management by identifying and presenting observations and recommendations that pertain to the evaluation of organizational risks and internal controls, the safeguarding of assets, and the efficient and effective deployment of resources. Support the Internal Audit Department’s initiatives by managing data analytics and other audit automation projects. Essential Functions Create, manage, and execute operational, financial, and compliance audits. Determine audit scope and objectives based on a risk analysis. Plan and perform testing procedures and communicate results both orally and in writing. Support Vision 2035 by aligning audit projects with products, services, values, strategies, and initiatives. Create, analyze, and improve upon detailed documentation (e.g., narratives and flowcharts) of key business processes for control weaknesses and inefficiencies. Review and challenge workpapers prepared by other team members. Present recommendations to improve the Credit Union’s efficiency, effectiveness, and risk position. Manage, track, and rate management’s progress toward its outstanding action plans. Communicate status updates to management and the Supervisory Committee both orally and in writing. Draft, finalize, and issue high-level, concise reports of audit results. Maintain and improve upon the department’s program for auditing with data analytics. Lead and manage assigned initiatives/projects for Internal Audit Department process improvements, including, but not limited to, automation. Serve as a resource to other departments by working with Credit Union staff to increase internal control awareness and appreciation. Take a leadership role in assisting management and staff with internal control-related problem solving. Adhere to the Institute of Internal Auditors’ Global Internal Audit Standards™ and appropriate risk models (e.g., COSO 2013 Framework). Ensure timely completion of assigned deliverables. Establish and maintain strong working relationships with all stakeholders, including staff, management, and third-party business partners. Perform due diligence on third-party audit partners. Manage outsourced internal audits. Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of directly relevant experience, preferably in auditing at a financial institution or public accounting. Equivalent graduate program work may be substituted for work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field required; equivalent professional experience may be substituted.
  • Demonstrates advanced understanding of business processes, policies and procedures, governance practices, and regulatory obligations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of risk assessment, control analysis, audit procedures, and IIA Standards.
  • Thorough understanding of Credit Union products and services, including features and member benefits.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications; knowledge of analytic tools and K-10 Vision software desired.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, macros).
  • Applies advanced knowledge and skills to handle complex tasks and unusual scenarios. Recognized by peers as a resource for guidance and problem-solving.
  • Understands how policies and procedures apply across varying situations and identifies when to escalate potential risks or errors.
  • Possesses superior interpersonal skills, including collaboration, negotiation, and conflict resolution. Interacts effectively with staff, management, Supervisory Committee members, and third-party partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior audit experience (internal or external) strongly preferred.
  • CIA, CPA, CISA, CFE, or other relevant certifications ideal.
