About The Position

The Parks and Recreation Intern position is a part-time role under the general direction of the Assistant Parks & Recreation Director. The intern will assist in planning, supervising, and cleaning up recreation programs, special events, and athletic contests, while also managing facility rentals. This role provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the operations of a municipal parks and recreation department.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in a bachelor's degree in sports management, community recreation, or related field is preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in recreation programming, officiating, facility supervision, or related field is required.
  • First Aid, CPR, AED, and Concussion training and certification is preferred.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of recreational programming and facilities management.
  • Skill in the use of office equipment and technology, including computers and specialized software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and present ideas and concepts orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prepare accurate and professional documents, records, reports, and correspondence.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment when dealing with employees and the public.
  • Ability to multi-task, problem-solve, and work effectively under stress.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of marketing principles related to recreational programming.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Assistant Parks and Recreation Director with day-to-day operations of events and facility rentals.
  • Supervise recreation programs and activities, including aquatic programs and sports leagues.
  • Provide game day setup, supervision, and cleanup of athletic facilities.
  • Act as the point of contact for visiting athletic teams, officials, and fans.
  • Receive complaints and coordinate solutions with the Assistant Director.
  • Respond to public inquiries about recreational programs via phone or written correspondence.
  • Participate in the recruitment, training, and supervision of part-time recreation staff and volunteers.
  • Maintain inventory of materials, equipment, and supply needs for assigned activities.
  • Participate in the maintenance of program-related records and submit payroll for assigned staff.
  • Perform other related work as required.
