About The Position

Neuberger is seeking a highly motivated Summer Intern to support the Specialty Finance team across our New York and Redwood City offices. The intern will assist with investment analysis, portfolio monitoring, market/industry research, and deal execution workflows across specialty finance strategies (e.g., asset-based lending, consumer/SME credit, lending platforms, structured credit, and other opportunistic credit assets). This role offers hands-on exposure to credit underwriting, structuring, and portfolio management.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Math/Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort with financial statements, credit metrics, and cash-flow thinking.
  • Advanced Excel skills (modeling, pivots, lookups; VBA a plus).
  • Familiarity with PowerPoint.
  • Clear written communication and the ability to synthesize complex information into concise takeaways.
  • High attention to detail, strong organization, and the ability to manage multiple workstreams under deadlines.
  • Interest in private credit / specialty finance and an eagerness to learn underwriting and structuring.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship experience in investment banking, private credit, asset management, consulting, fintech, or risk.
  • Familiarity with SQL/Python, data visualization tools, or credit datasets (performance tapes).
  • Exposure to consumer credit, ABS, warehouse facilities, or structured products.

Responsibilities

  • Deal / investment support Build and maintain Excel-based financial models (cash flows, scenarios/sensitivities, leverage, downside cases).
  • Support credit underwriting: borrower/platform assessment, collateral review, unit economics, covenant and structure analysis.
  • Assist with investment memos, IC materials, and diligence trackers (requests, document lists, key findings).
  • Portfolio monitoring Track portfolio performance metrics (e.g., delinquencies, defaults, recoveries, prepayments, advance rates, covenants).
  • Prepare recurring monitoring dashboards and flag variance vs. underwrite case.
  • Support watchlist notes and quarterly/annual review materials.
  • Market and industry research Research specialty finance subsectors, regulatory developments, competitive dynamics, and funding markets.
  • Summarize key themes and implications for portfolio positioning and new opportunities.
