About The Position

A news internship at the South Florida takes you into the heart of the ultimate journalism class: a digital news operation in one of America’s newsiest metropolitan areas. Undergraduate or graduate college students, as well as recent graduates, are allowed. This special spring internship is a 16-week paid position. The South Florida Sun Sentinel, founded in 1910, serves Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties. Our mission is to deliver the truth every day. Requirements

  • Completion of basic college journalism/communication courses
  • Professional experience through a previous internship or freelance work is essential, though students whose experience is limited to campus media also will be considered if they have a strong body of work
  • Must be willing to submit and pass the necessary required checks
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation
  • Must be available for shift work
  • May be required to work various hours for coverage outside of normal business hours

Responsibilities

  • Be assigned to different newsroom departments, supervised by an editor, and given assignments to complete on a short-term or long-term basis
  • Develop story ideas to pitch to editors
  • Cover news and business topics
