About The Position

Hummel Station is a 1,124 MW combined-cycle flexible generation facility, providing capacity and energy to the PJM Interconnection. One of the newest and most efficient combined-cycle plants in the PJM market, it is capable of powering up to one million homes and features 3 Siemens SGT6-5000F5ee combustion turbines, 3 NEM heat recovery steam generators, and 1 Siemens SST6-5000 steam turbine under a long-term service agreement. Originally developed as one of the largest coal-to-gas conversions in the United States. Opportunity Summary We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Summer Internship Program at Hummel Station. This role applies engineering and technical principles to a variety of assignments supporting plant operations and maintenance at a highly efficient combined-cycle power generation facility. The Technical Intern will gain hands-on experience working alongside industry professionals, supporting small projects or portions of larger initiatives, assisting operations and maintenance personnel, contributing to regulatory and environmental compliance efforts, and helping drive overall station reliability. Interns will be exposed to plant equipment, safety procedures, and energy production processes, while developing recommendations to resolve assigned technical issues and ensuring adherence to all plant safety, operational, and administrative programs.

Requirements

  • We are accepting applications from students currently enrolled in an Engineering program (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related field) or a two-year power plant technology program.
  • Strong academic background with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Must possess a valid drivers' license and successfully complete a background check, pre-employment physical and drug screen

Nice To Haves

  • Educational concentration in power generation systems and equipment, including operational theory and engineering safety is desired.
  • Demonstrated interest in energy, power generation, or related fields
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage time and priorities
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges in a dynamic work environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and Project

Responsibilities

  • Participate in daily activities associated with the safe and reliable operation of the plant, including:
  • Supporting preventive maintenance activities
  • Assisting with startup and shutdown evolutions
  • Supporting environmental compliance initiatives
  • Understand and adhere to all plant safety guidelines, policies, and procedures while promoting and maintaining an injury-free work environment.
  • Develop knowledge of combined-cycle gas turbine operations through team collaboration and self-directed learning.
  • Assist in preparing reports, calculations, specifications, scope documents, sketches, and drawings.
  • Support troubleshooting and analysis of plant equipment and systems.
  • Assist with assigned projects and departmental initiatives.
  • Attend and actively participate in Plant Safety Committee meetings.
  • Perform site and equipment housekeeping on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintain positive working relationships and contribute to a safe and professional work environment.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
