Critical Home Repair (CHR) Family Services Internship Habitat for Humanity Charlotte Region Full-Time | $17.75 per hour Are you passionate about housing stability, community engagement, and serving diverse populations? Join our team and help bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope. The Critical Home Repair (CHR) Family Services Intern works directly with applicants and approved Partner Families in our Critical Home Repair program. This full-time internship offers hands-on experience in nonprofit housing services, community outreach, client support, and program coordination. This role collaborates closely with our Family Services, Construction, and Development teams to support families through the repair process and strengthen community impact. Requirements

  • Passion for nonprofit work, housing stability, social services, or gerontology
  • Comfort working with diverse populations, including aging adults and low-to-moderate income households
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage sensitive conversations with professionalism and empathy
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Clear background check and drug screening
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work
  • Occasional lifting up to 20 lbs
  • Ability to visit homes that may include stairs
  • Ability to drive within the service area

Responsibilities

  • Track and maintain the CHR Interest List and communicate with prospective applicants
  • Support the application process through document collection, data entry, and applicant verification
  • Respond to inquiries through the CHR hotline and provide accurate program information
  • Provide administrative support to approved Partner Families, including meeting preparation and document reverification
  • Assist in planning and executing family engagement events and department initiatives
  • Design and analyze surveys for previously served families and present findings to staff
  • Represent the organization at outreach events, information sessions, and community tabling events
  • Support special projects and additional initiatives as assigned
