About The Position

The Family Services Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing the Family and Community Partnership service area. Recruits and enrolls children. Develops and implements individualized Family Partnership agreements with parents. Acts as community liaison for the agency.

Requirements

  • Requires a High School diploma or GED equivalent AND
  • Requires NHSA Family Services Coordinator credential at time of hire or within 9 months of employment AND
  • Requires fluency in written and spoken Spanish and English
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Knowledge and use of modern office practices and procedures, including basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge and use of English language and grammar.
  • Knowledge and use of appropriate telephone etiquette.
  • Ability to carry detailed oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and supervise work of others and encourage problem solving.
  • DCFS background/criminal check, DCFS Physical, Mandated Reporter, valid driver’s license & auto liability insurance, and DCFS Licensing required courses
  • Strength: Lift/carry up to 40 pounds on occasion and 20 pounds frequently.
  • Movement: Routine: Sit, walk, or stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Lift horizontally and vertically, bend and stoop, push/pull, twist, carry, crouch, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach above shoulder level.
  • Hear and understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone.
  • Occasion: Use near visual acuity to review both written documents and text on computer monitor.
  • Drive an automobile.
  • Operate a telephone, keyboard and mouse.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes, facilitates, and conducts meetings and training sessions for staff and parents (completing the Parent Education Training form, after each session).
  • Conducts at least one evening home visit a month to each enrolled family.
  • Assists parents in developing individualized short and long-term goals and in accomplishing them.
  • Organizes and participates in delegate inter-agency meetings.
  • Participates in community boards, councils, advisory groups, etc. representing the agency.
  • Organizes and facilitates all Parent Committee and Policy Council meetings according to federal and IMSHSP guidelines, and provides training to parent representatives.
  • Attends statewide pre-service training; participates in delegate pre-service training and maintains ongoing efforts for professional development.
  • Maintains organized records of activities related to the Family Engagement, including but not limited to, family files.
  • Coordinates efforts to encourage community members and parents as volunteers.
  • Attends all center staffing, staff, and management meetings.
  • Identifies community agencies and resources which provide services to migrant and seasonal families, establishing and maintaining cooperative relationships with them.
  • Acts as an advocate for Migrant and Seasonal Head Start families and promotes their ability to advocate for themselves.
  • Ensures the delivery of social services, emergency and non-emergency services, directly or through referrals.
  • Coordinates the development and update of the Community Resources Directory.
  • Responds to children’s three-day absences by visiting or calling the parents, according to procedures.
  • Submits accurate, prompt reports as requested by the center Site Supervisor or EC Director.
  • Ensures absolute confidentiality with respect to informational records concerning families and children.
  • Performs ongoing recruitment and documents accurately.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
  • Attends evening or weekend meetings, trainings, or community events as required.
  • Serves on agency committees as assigned.
  • Participates in continuing education and staff development through coaching, seminars, conferences, or work shops at personal or departmental expenses.
  • All duties necessary to meet requirements of Migrant Program.
