About The Position

DUMAC, Inc. is the investment manager for Duke University, overseeing the university’s endowment and other assets. Committed to operational excellence and innovation in investment management, DUMAC is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented intern to support its Finance team. This role offers hands-on exposure to investment operations, financial reporting, and process improvement initiatives within a sophisticated institutional investment environment. The intern will contribute to a range of special projects while supporting ongoing efforts to enhance data integrity, streamline processes, and strengthen financial oversight. This position involves active participation in meaningful work that supports Duke University’s long-term financial strength and operational excellence.

Requirements

• Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail
• Interest in investments, financial markets, and investment operations
• Proficiency in Excel
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively

• Familiarity with data tools or programming

Responsibilities

• Support special projects spanning investment operations, financial reporting, and process improvement initiatives
• Assist in data validation and quality assurance efforts related to automation and systems enhancements
• Perform account and transaction reconciliations across investment portfolios and operational systems
• Review and analyze audited financial statements for external investment managers, identifying key insights and discrepancies
• Compile, organize, and analyze financial and operational data to support decision-making
• Partner with team members to improve workflows, documentation, and internal controls
