About the WM Northern CA / Nevada Team We have multiple roles / Projects that we are seeking Interns for. 🔹 Safety Project Intern – Area Safety: Partner with the Area Safety Director team to support a focused safety initiative. You’ll assist with field observations, data review, and safety process improvements while gaining exposure to WM safety programs. 🔹 Healthcare Intern – Mechanical Engineering (Sensor Project): Support a hands‑on engineering project by assisting with sensor research, testing, and evaluation on a manufacturing line. Ideal for Mechanical Engineering students interested in applied technology and innovation. 🔹 Healthcare Intern – Data / Process Improvement: Analyze data and support process‑improvement or project‑management work related to potential expansion of medical waste collections. Ideal for students in Data Analytics, Industrial Engineering, or Project Management. 🔹 Operations Management Intern: Work onsite at a WM facility to support daily operations and complete a meaningful site‑specific project. Great for Operations or Business majors seeking exposure to frontline operations, logistics, and leadership. You'll get to explore [specific tools, projects, or initiatives], learn how things work behind the scenes, and help WM drive purpose in everything we do. Whether you're diving into data, pitching ideas, or helping make things run smoother, what you do will matter—and we want to hear what you think.

Requirements

  • Interns must have a High school diploma or GED (accredited) and be pursuing or have recently completed a Bachelor’s degree (accredited) in a field of study relevant to the internship.
  • Must have a reliable form of transportation.
  • This position requires travel to various locations as part of the internship experience. This includes site visits, tours, and networking events.

Nice To Haves

  • Full-time student in a 4 year College or University, Required
  • Junior or Senior Standing
  • All majors accepted. Projects will be focused in the areas of Operations, Environmental Protection, safety, Mechanical Engineering OR Business / Process improvement .
  • Desire in pursuing a career with an Environmental Services company post-graduation in Northern California or Nevada

Responsibilities

  • Uses problem solving skills, determines problems, and understand fundamental parts of the problem.
  • Conducts analysis as directed, and prepares and delivers insights and recommendations based on analysis.
  • Synthesizes findings and draws conclusions from analyses and makes oral/written recommendations to supervisor and/or manager.
  • Executes tasks directly related to functional projects and/or process improvements.
  • Communicates issues and roadblocks related to areas of responsibility.
