About The Position

As the Intern Geology, you will be responsible for supporting the Technical Services team during the 2026 summer season. This role is based position from Hermosa Site near Patagonia, Arizona. Other key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to: Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social and ethical skills. Learn basic principles of mine development design, stope design, zone design, waste management. Provide support for trade off studies, such as conveyor to crusher and fleet. Exposure to Logistics simulation, first principal cost build up verification and core rig support. Assist with project research, field work and preliminary design calculations and analysis. Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation. Complete training on assigned tasks. Exercise responsible decision-making regarding conduct and adhere to South32 policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Please note, there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.

Requirements

  • Ability to uphold workplace safety and ability to abide by South32's policies and procedures.
  • Actively enrolled in Undergraduate or Graduate degree program with anticipated graduation date of August 2025 or later.
  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Mining Engineering or related Graduate or Undergraduate program.
  • Demonstrated interest in Mine Engineering, or related field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to South32 and the Hermosa project.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas professionally.
  • Self-motivated and eager learner with aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to take direction from leadership, mentors and managers.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, Microsoft suite, etc.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
