Job Summary Dominion Energy's System Operations Center (SOC) Engineering department is seeking a motivated individual to support the Company's evolving transmission grid and assist with the industry leading projects we have in progress. The System Operations Engineering team supports our System Operators by maintaining and updating our Energy Management System (EMS). The is a complex software system that receives hundreds of thousands of measurements from substations within our territory and neighboring utilities, makes them available to the System Operators in a variety of views, and performs complex calculations on this data for many different purposes, such as 'what-if' scenarios (known as Contingency Analysis). Our team is also in the midst of a multi-year project, partnering with a vendor, to build a state-of-the-art synchrophasor-based EMS, utilizing synchrophasor data updating at 30 times per second. Interns will work with experienced team members to assist with projects that bridge our System Operations Engineering and EMS IT teams, learning about how a System Operations Center functions, the technology and system architecture of an EMS, and how to be effective as a professional engineer within a large corporation.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program.
  • Basic understanding of Electricity and Power Systems.
  • Equally effective working independently or in a team environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Time management skills with the ability to independently plan and organize work assignments.
  • Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.
  • Must be pursuing a bachelor's degree in an engineering field (preferred fields include Electrical Engineering with a concentration in power systems or Computer Engineering) from an ABET accredited Engineering program at a four year or post-graduate college or university.
  • Must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with Power Utilities.
  • Strong software development skills, particularly in Python, JavaScript, C#, and/or Perl.
