Aquarion Water Company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Eversource.Job SummaryThe Supply Operations Mystic territory team is looking for a summer Intern!  This position works under general supervisory direction of the Territory Operations Manager and the Certified System Operators in the water systems to which assigned.  Primary duty will be to inspect fire hydrants in the towns of Stonington, Groton, and Plainville.  This will include identifying and recording possible repairs needed, checking caps and water pressure, clearing overgrowth, and performing touch-up painting on the hydrants.  This job requires the incumbent to work independently and to be thorough to ensure the hydrants are ready for an emergency.  Some hydrants are located near busy roadways, so proper safety procedures must be followed.  Intern will also perform other duties as assigned and trained-for.  Training will be provided by Aquarion staff and a utility van with required equipment will be provided.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid CT state driver’s license.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to work independently, thoroughly, and safely, applying training given.
  • High School diploma with appropriate technical training.

Nice To Haves

  • Must possess a basic working knowledge and understanding of mechanical and/or electrical systems.
  • Experience with the operation of personal computers, with emphasis on (but not limited to) SAP, & Microsoft Office.
  • Possess ability to lift 100 pounds.
  • Must be able to work independently, thoroughly, and safely, applying training provided.

Responsibilities

  • Minor maintenance and repairs (as needed), and general maintenance (i.e. checking caps and water pressure, clearing overgrowth, and painting hydrants).
  • Conduct facility rounds including monitoring of chemical usage and supply, and assessment of equipment for proper operation.
  • Maintain, operate, and adjust water treatment plant pumps, motors, chemical feed systems.
  • Collect water samples and perform field chemical and physical testing such as turbidity, pH, and Cl2 content.
  • Train and transfer knowledge of water treatment processes, including coagulation, clarification, filtration, oxidation, and disinfection to less experienced operators.
  • Transport equipment between Aquarion offices.
  • Perform other various duties as assigned.
